Award-Winning Speculative Fiction & Non-Fiction Author.
Claire Fitzpatrick is an award-winning author of speculative fiction and non-fiction, specialising in body horror. Her anthology ‘The Body Horror Book,’ which she co-wrote and edited, won the 2017 Rocky Wood Award for Non-Fiction and Criticism. Her debut collection ‘Metamorphosis’ was released by IFWG Publishing Australia in 2019 to positive acclaim.
Claire is the 2021 recipient of the Horror Writer’s Association’s Rocky Wood Memorial scholarship fund for her upcoming collaborative non-fiction anthology ‘A Vindication Of Monsters – essays on Mary Shelley and Mary Wollstonecraft’. (Expected publication date 2023-24 IFWG Publishing). Her article ‘How Mary Shelley Continues To Influence Science Fiction,’ published in Aurealis #145, was shortlisted for the 2022 William Atheling Jr Award for Criticism or Review.
Claire is a judge for the 2022 Forevability Book Awards, and a flash fiction judge for the 2021 & 2022 Robert N Stephenson Flash Fiction and Short Story Competition. She’s also the social media coordinator for the Australasian Horror Writers Association.
Claire has a Bachelor of Government and International Relations from Griffith University and a Graduate Certificate of Writing, Editing, and Publishing from the University of Queensland. She is currently completing a HDR degree at Torrens University.
As an editor, she operates Edit Without Mercy, offering proof-reading, copy-editing, content editing, academic editing, and book formatting services. (Yes, she will help you with your thesis!).
She is also the Creative Producer of Haus Of Beaver Productions and performs serious performance art under her own name and comedy as Consuela Beaverhausen. Both her 2021 and 2022 Anywhere Festival shows were received with praise.
